Logan looked around the comfortably furnished interior of her new living room with its friendly big windows and holo-windows, then hitched Bethany a little higher in her carrier and headed for the stairs that led down to her private entrance to the cantina. She was silent as she walked around the modern but comfortably worn furnishings, thinking that she needed to find a bartender and some waitstaff before any customers showed up.
Nodding to herself at the thought, she went through the door that led out to the terrace, and instead of looking down like most would, looked up. Up at the plants overhanging higher terraces. Up at the flash of pale and dark wings as a family of Senkefeen went over. Up at the far off desert sky. It seemed a little strange to be living on a planet, when all she could remember was the compact, contained world of a nexus. Strange to think that if she rode her motorcycle on that road by the river that she could go forever and never come back unless she turned around. And strange to think that she'd be the only adult in the bed tonight.
But it was for the best. Her kids could go to school here with other kids, learn how to be good citizens instead of little hooligans and- for some of them- what it meant to be born with great power at their beck.
She shook her head and rubbed Bethany's back, then turned and walked back inside.
Logan's Place was open for business. Free drinks all around.
