She did not expect to find herself in a cafe. She'd been chasing down a criminal, saw him duck into an alley and through a door, and followed him in. Wherever it had lead, it certainly shouldn't have been someplace like this.

And yet, she sensed that she wasn't really in any kind of danger. She was good at scoping places out, looking for threats, and she just didn't see that that. Slowly, she let her crossbow drop and hooked it to her belt.

"...Second time this kind of thing has happened. Just plain strange," she muttered.

"They first came to light in 2092." Brenda bowed her head for a moment, then picked up her sandwich and looked inside it. She knew it was what she wanted, but that didn't stop her from making sure. "They're a gang movement based on use of and revereation of a synapse altering drug known as Pain Serum."

"2092... That's more than a hundred years in my future."

"And more than two hundred in my current past." Her mouth turned up a bit at the corner as she ate, just a teen looking for a reaction.

"Whoah."

Huntress was quite clearly surprised by this. "That's just... I don't know what that is, actually."

The familiarity was poking at her. Then she recalled the family painting gallery back at the Manor and nodded to herself. -Not an alter. A relative.-

"When I first found out I thought I'd taken a bad trip from painkillers." One slender brow arched. "You're a Wayne."

Huntress managed not to be surprised by this. "And so are you."

"Brenda," she affirmed, icy eyes curious.

"Helena," she replied. Then she adds, "Daughter of Batman and Catwoman."

"Bruce and Selena?" Brenda's eyes narrowed thoughtfully as she consulted her memory on one certain portrait.

She nodded. "Yeah."

"In the reality where I live now they named their daughter Kathryn," Brenda remembered. "Or Bruce did, as an apology to Selena for being a jerk."

She smirked at the last bit, knowing full well that if she'd been a guy 'jerk' could have applied to her fairly regularly too.

"Interesting," Helena replied. "I just don't get it though. Everywhere I go, I keep running into super-heroes from other realities who were either jerks, or way too serious for their own good. I mean, okay, Hawkman's a stick in the mud and Wildcat can be a grump now and then, but Dad and Dick were never jerks, and Jay Garrick's probably the nicest person I've ever met."

"You should meet Clark some time." Brenda chuckled slightly. "I don't know how that guy's stayed that sweet that long. As for the rest...." She frowned. "I can't speak for Bruce... I know he and I are the same person, but our stories didn't even start out the same way. But someone once told me that he'd lost so much that in order to keep from losing anything more he closed his heart and focused on only being Batman. 'Bruce' was just a mask."

"I've met a few, actually. The one from my Earth is practically an uncle to me. He was Dad's best friend."

She shook her head. "Dad talked about that kind of thing from time to time, about how it would have been easy to close himself off to everything. But Dick, Alfred, and later Mom and me, he had people in his life who made it so he didn't have to. And he caught Joe Chill, the man who killed his parents, early into his career. It turned what might have been a misson of vengence into a more positive one, making sure what happened to him wouldn't happen to anyone else."
