Finding time for a day out...

Blues and Kalinka have been meaning to check this place out for quite a while now. It was surprising how often something could keep coming up when you have a pair of twins to watch. Not to mention all the other things both parents tend to meddle in.

But they're here now, with little Mikhail and Ciel. And without any other guards or chaperones.

"Just fine," Blues says. He's been trying to get Mikhail to notice there's food, but so far the little boy is more interested in babbling at the window.

Ciel, now that her stress worm has been fed, starts to notice there's other food. But before Kalinka gets a chance to feed her more than a couple bites of scrambled eggs, the little girl notices the tribbles. "'Ble!" she says, pointing.

"Da, he has tribbles," says Kalinka.

"'Ble," Ciel says again, and then gives her stress worm a hug.

Ben chuckles and pats the two fuzzballs. "This one's mine. She's Bob. And this one belongs to Pika." He points toward an orange kitten who's sitting on the bar sharing someone's breakfast.

The winged girl looks at Blue and nods, then waves good bye to Mikhail.

"They are very cute," Kalinka says. "Tribbles are nice pets as long as they do not breed."

Ciel still prefers her stress worm.

Mikhail waves bye, and then Blues is able to get him to notice the food.

"These ones can't have babies." He looks toward the door and runs to greet some newcomers.

The food is very good. But the sausages don't quite taste like pork, and the eggs might be duck.

Once he's far enough away that she thinks they won't be overheard, Kalinka makes a comment to Blues - in Russian - about the food tasting just a bit odd. Having done a lot of travelling, he's able to tell her he thinks they might be duck eggs - but he's not sure about the sausage.

"Pork culture," says a brawny blond guy at the next table without looking up.

"Culture?" Kalinka questions, not even sure if the man had been talking to them or not.

He glances up with golden cat's eyes as his redhaired wife turns to smile at the twins. "Pork flavored protein culture."

Ciel babbles happily at new people, and holds up her stress worm to show off. Mikhail is chewing on a piece of toast at the moment and says nothing.

"Ah, thank you," Kalinka replies. It doesn't bother her that the sausages are synthetic. She's fairly sure they'd be safe, regardless. Her own world has had to make a few similar adaptions after World War Three.

Blues can't help thinking the man resembles a much older alternate of Slash.

"No problem, kid." He gives her a slightly sad grin and turns back to his own breakfast, which consists of a massive bloody rare steak and a small serving of fried potatoes.

"How old are they?" asks his wife softly, her eyes still on the babies.

"They are ten months old," says Kalinka, smiling. Ciel gives the stress worm another cuddle and a piece of mangled toast.

The bloody meat only reinforces the resemblance to Slash - his brothers had never quite convinced him that raw meat was mostly for fire lizards. Slash likely would have turned up his nose at the potatoes, however, although he had been known to eat some bites of fruit or berries when coaxed.

Which means Blues is now curious. Not that he shows much outward sign of it as he feeds Mikhail another bite of egg.
