Here again

A tall, muscular man clad in sport jacket and jeans walked into the cantina, then stopped and looked around as he recognized the place and remembered when he'd been here last.

-Four years,- he thought, pondering going back home for a moment before shrugging and walking over to a booth. -This is as good a place to work as any.-

One hand went up to absently rub the big purple bruise on the side of his face; souvenir of his last encounter with a door frame. Then he seated himself and asked the furry waitress for a coffee before immersing himself in his work.

Having only recently acquired the coordinates for this place, Elisa had never the less decided to check it out, if only for politeness's sake.

Even still, new places always made her just a little be nervous, if only because of a) a cop's instinct for always being on the lookout for trouble, and b) the possibility of mobs with torches and pitchforks coming.

As she looked around, her eyes fell on one booth in particular.

No way. Absolutely no way.

Except she'd know that face--more or less--anywhere.

"What the hell?"

Well, if nothing else, the voice clinched it for her.

"And here I thought I'd seen just about everything."

"Welcome to my world, Bi... Goliath," she said, approaching where he was sitting.

"I'd say call it alternate insanity and leave it at that... But I doubt you'd be satisfied with that. And frankly, neither would I."

"Not unless things really went nuts while I was out," she said, chuckling slightly. "But yes, I'd love to."

Better this than the other Goliath alternate, who went gooey-eyed and fainly stalkerish at the sight of her.

She folded her wings and sat down, being mindful of her tail. It was a moment before she could find her voice again. "I... This is just too weird. And I have a big tolerance for weird these days."

"I got turned into a Gargoyle, for crying out loud. After that, just about everything else is less weird by comparison," she said.

She reached out with her tail, snagging the handle with the tip, and brought the cup back to the table. "Having a little trouble holding on to things, Goliath?"

Elisa's expression became a rapid succession of differing ones. First concern over the bruise--even if he wasn't her Goliath, then surprise at the mention of his Elisa's stomach growing (and she knew what that meant), and then a bit of confusion at the mention of being taken off active duty.

"You and her... she's... you mean... Whoah."

As far as replies go, it's not much of one, but she'd been pretty much taken by total surprise here.

Not to mention feeling the stirrings of jealousy.

This time, Elisa smiled. "That's wonderful," she said, and meant it. "My Goliath and I have been 'married' for nearly six months now. But children are still a long ways off for us."

Twelve years until they were even fertile, six months before she'd lay an egg, and ten years after that waiting for it to hatch. At least she wouln't be going into that alone. Angela, Desdemona, Katana, they'd all be having kids at the same time.
