A tall, muscular man clad in sport jacket and jeans walked into the cantina, then stopped and looked around as he recognized the place and remembered when he'd been here last.

-Four years,- he thought, pondering going back home for a moment before shrugging and walking over to a booth. -This is as good a place to work as any.-

One hand went up to absently rub the big purple bruise on the side of his face; souvenir of his last encounter with a door frame. Then he seated himself and asked the furry waitress for a coffee before immersing himself in his work.

"This was Lexington," rumbled Goliath, pleased by the laughter. "And I suspect he was caffeinated from chocolate as well."

The boy had been vibrating as he'd dragged him out of the study hall at the university and brought him home.

Elisa's face splits into an amused, fangy grin. "Good lord, Lex on a caffine high... that boy's bad enough in front of a computer without chemicals."

"This was mostly sugar. The time he had two cans in a row of something called 'Red Bull'...." He shook his head at the memory.

His Elisa hadn't laughed that time. Not till Lex was tucked safely in his bed and sleeping it off.

"Oh man, that must have been something to see. Not that we don't have our own share of amusements, especially with Brooklyn and Kat's kids."

"Cat?" he asked, reaching carefully for his coffee again and emptying the cup, then setting it where it could be refilled.

Yup, Goliath has a coffee addiction.

"Oh, right. You wouldn't know about her. Few months back, Brooklyn got abducted by the Phoenix Gate. Comes back a couple minutes later, and for him, it's been forty years. Had a mate with him, Katana, from 16th century Japan, and their two kids, Nashville and Tachi."

Goliath's surprise showed clearly, then changed to thoughtfulness. "He just proposed to Maria in my reality."

He thought of Brooklyn that much older and quirked a slight smile. The hot-headed, often angry youngster was shaping up to be a natural born leader.

"Funny how things work out differently."

She nodded, slightly. "His time away definitely did him a world of good. Grew up a whole heck of a lot."

"He's going to be a fine leader one day." Goliath picked up the refilled cup and drank, carefully keeping the drips from the bottom off the kitten. "If he doesn't break his neck riding that motorcycle over the rooftops."

She nods. "Much as I hate to say it, having an adult version around is definitely an improvement. But he's got good skills, little wonder he almost got the second-in-command job."

"You have it instead." He frowned into the empty cup and set it to the edge again, then resumed skritching the kitten as he returned his attention to Elisa.

Elisa set her own now empty cup on the edge as well. "Yeah, I do. Didn't much want the job at first, but I took in on and I'd say I've done pretty good with it."

"Not surprising." He smiled and turned his head to look out the window as a large bat flew past. As he did so a faint but rather large scar became apparent on the left side of his forehead heading toward his temple. It didn't look like walking into a door frame.

A half gasp, half growl escaped from Elisa's throat. "What... where the hell did you get that scar?"
