The thing about being on the road is you never knew where you'd end up. As it so happened, Dean and Sam were staying at a nearby motel and Dean wanted a drink in a major way. It had been a long day. Sam decided to stay behind and read and so Dean set out on his own. He left the Impala behind as it was just a short walk and a well lit night.
Dean walked into the cantina, ordered a beer and settled on a seat off near a corner. He sat down, leaning back in his chair and took a nice long cool drink.

Then he looks down at the boy. "This is Buddy. Buddy Winchester."

Dean looks over. "Hi there Buddy. I'm Dean. How old are you?"

"I'm four," says the little guy, looking at Dean with serious brown eyes. "You're Dean, right? Like my brother that died?"

He looked at John with a questioning glance about whether or not the Dean Buddy is referring to was a Dean like him but is pretty sure it is.
"Four huh? Wow, you're almost all grown up. What a big fella you are." He nods. "Yeah, I'm like Dean I think."

"I'm not grown up." Buddy frowns. "I'm not big enough to help yet, so I have to come here while Mom and Pastor Jim try to make the bad thing go away."
He scrubs at his eye, then picks up the glass of milk. "My brother was brave, he died tryin' to protect Sammy."

"It'll be alright." John rubs his back. "Everything will be alright."
Buddy just looks up at him and then drinks.

Dean thinks a second and apologizes. "Look, really sorry if i'm being a little.. weird or whatever. I just never thought I'd see another version of my dad after we lost him."

"So what do you do now?" he asks, unable to remember if the female Sam had told him very much about John.
