A gathering of Bats and a birdy

A commanding, shadowy figure swept through the teleportal, then turned to look at the two who had accompanied her, a strangely human voice coming from her frightening mask.

"Where do you want to sit?"

"Might it have been a mistake?" There was the soft echo of grief in her voice.

She looked down at the coffee that one of the furry waitresses had unobtrusively set in front of them. "I'd known Cal-el for over twelve years. He was a good man... no one could change that no matter what they tried."

"In my verse, superman never had a name aside from superman"

"Cal-el was the name his parents gave him before they sent him to Earth," she said softly. Then her gaze sharpened and she looked up. "Who raised him?"

"LuthorCorp" he said simply.

Her face twisted into a snarl, and it was pretty plain that she was Batwoman just then and not Brenda. "Lex and Laura."

"Lex and Lionel" he corrected.

"I wasn't talking about the old man. I was talking about the adopted daughter who just put her father and brother out of business." Her voice was hard.

"Adopted daughter? I don't know any......."

"MUUUUUUUMMM!" came a scream from a blur "IT'S ATTACKING!!!"

Brenda nearly jumped out of her skin, but then realized what had happened and swiftly stuck the batarang back in her belt. "Adao! I'm over here!"

Her son's childlike fears still tried her patience, but she had come to love he and his sister. And she was wondering what her alternate would think of this child with a mixture of her own and Cal's features.

He rushed over and virtually jumped into her lap and kissed her "HE'S ATTACKING!"

Batman scowled, "Hmm" he said "This a Robin?"

"No." She awkwardly stroked Adao's hair. "This is my son. Adao Kent. Superboy."

"Super-WHAT?!?!" Batman asked looking a little out raged.
Adao giggled.

"Laura Luthor had Superman killed in my reality," she said, her face closed and distant. "Then she took it upon herself to mix his DNA with mine and produce children from it, whom she tried to set against me."

"But we have minds of our own" Adao said warmly.

He blinked slowly "I......."

"They have their father's heart," said Brenda gruffly.

Batman wheeled back a little. "He hasn't a heart"

Adao looked at her then him wondering what was going on.

"No." She sighed and absently urged her son to sit in the chair beside her so that her legs wouldn't go to sleep. "It's B. Wayne who hasn't a heart."

He did as suggested moving to the other seat.

"me?"

"And me." She scowled absently. "We've locked ourselves so solidly into the Bat that we've forgotten how to be human."
