A gathering of Bats and a birdy

A commanding, shadowy figure swept through the teleportal, then turned to look at the two who had accompanied her, a strangely human voice coming from her frightening mask.

"Where do you want to sit?"

Brenda frowned. "What's his history?"

"I've not got much out of him...... but I found him on the streets"

"What will happen to him if you take the uniform from him?"

"He'll run away and join nightwing probably"

She shook her head. "So you've chased Dick off, then."

"I did not, he chased himself off"

"Why?"

"Something about me not treating him like an adult. Also the fact he sided with Superman"

"Superman?" She froze, thoughts derailed.

"Yeah, the one that put me in this chair"

"Why did he do that?" She frowned.

"Why did he side with superman? cause he believed him"

"No," she said quietly. "Why did Superman do that to you?"

"I have no idea what goes on his little brain"

"Might it have been a mistake?" There was the soft echo of grief in her voice.

"No he meant to break it"

"Does Dick believe he meant to?"

"no" he sighed

She looked down at the coffee that one of the furry waitresses had unobtrusively set in front of them. "I'd known Cal-el for over twelve years. He was a good man... no one could change that no matter what they tried."

"In my verse, superman never had a name aside from superman"

"Cal-el was the name his parents gave him before they sent him to Earth," she said softly. Then her gaze sharpened and she looked up. "Who raised him?"

Her face twisted into a snarl, and it was pretty plain that she was Batwoman just then and not Brenda. "Lex and Laura."

"I wasn't talking about the old man. I was talking about the adopted daughter who just put her father and brother out of business." Her voice was hard.
